Everybody loved Sonny

And another glowing review of the Sonny Rollins concert in Chicago Friday night. He really did kick butt.

Perhaps it was written by Sonny's lover, I don't know.

What I do know is this: the writer wraps up writing:

Signaling the rest of the band to stop playing, Rollins ventured into a head-tripping, genre-defying, stream-of-consciousness cadenza that freely bounded among styles and idioms and vernaculars.

Is the audience pleasure a function of the performer's virtuosity, or the good sounds?

In this case, both.
