Birthday greetings

Miles Davis would have been 80 today and if he was I probably wouldn't be wondering who's ever going to resolve jazz and hip-hop.

Hi Greg,

I actually got to see Miles perform live once -- at Avery Fisher Hall (I THINK...) in NYC...back in the late-80's. He spent most of the concert with his back to the audience, but I didn't care one little bit. I'd never heard ANYBODY play like that before.

It was much the same when I got to hear Wynton Marsalis...except Wynton actually faced us! :)

BOTH were incredible moments. I was happy to be alive!!!!

Greg, one more comment...actually a question for you.

If you could only have ONE Miles Davis CD in your collection, which would it be?

For me, I'd have trouble deciding between "Sketches of Spain" and "Kind of Blue".

Just curious...

Hello Janet. I envy you having gotten to see Miles live, even if you only saw the back of him.

If I had to pick one Miles CD it would probably be "In a Silent Way" because it is the nexus between his acoustic and electric periods, as well as being darn good music.

Greg, I'll go back and give your CD choice a fresh listen. Isn't that the way? Somebody mentions a CD you haven't heard in a long time, and then when you hear it you hear something new...and on...and on!!!
