To heck with Pearl Harbor Day, I was persuing
allmusic tonight and I noticed that John Coltrane, McCoy Tyner, Jimmy Garrison, Elvin Jones and Rudy Van Gelder recorded "A Love Supreme" on Dec. 9, 1964. I think I'll take the day off henceforth and maybe re-read
Ashley Kahn's excellent book about the making of the Coltrane masterwork.

Wow, Greg...I had no idea. It's my all-time favorite jazz recording. We'll have a listen tonight to celebrate -- even though we're one day late.
And I didn't know about the book. Thanks for the heads-up!

Kahn's book on the making of "Kind of Blue" also is good, although I think I liked the "A Love Supreme" book better.
